The Tarot Card for the Day Is the IV of Pentacles

The IV of Pentacles has us concerned about resources. This resonates with the Square between Venus in Taurus and Pluto in Aquarius. It’s hard to pay attention to pleasure and comfort if we’re feeling the anxiety of a destabilized foundation. The Traditional Rider-Waite Smith card depicts a man seated in a throne on a stage with two coins beneath his feet. One being hugged against his chest and a fourth on top of his crown. This figure definitely has money on the mind.

With a connection to Capricorn this card asks us to take stock of our inventory. To make sure that our anxieties aren’t misplaced. While also questioning what it is that we truly value? It is a practical realistic card though. I know with how tumultuous the financial world is looking right now, I personally went through and got rid of some subscriptions that I didn’t want lingering about. Now is a great time to start trimming back things you aren’t really putting that much attention to but you are spending your valuable time on.

What I mean by that is, every dollar you have is a base unit of time you’ve spent in your life. Each dollar represents your breath, your heart beat, and your attention. Every dollar you’ve earned is also contains every meal you ate, shower you’ve taken, anything at all you’ve done to prepare yourself to earn that dollar. Even the sleep you got the night before you went to work to earn that dollar is woven into its threads.

This becomes even less tangible as we move deeper and deeper into the caverns of digital currency. Our digital subscriptions gently syphon money out of our bank accounts. Little by little like a clever pick pocket or a sneaky financial advisor embezzling from a major company.

Sure, they aren’t doing anything illegal. We’ve signed up to pay for the services. We’ve signed our first born child away to the Terms and Services agreements that we’ve all supposedly read.

Then a “Prices are going up” notice passes through our spam file in our email account and seemingly out of nowhere a bill has gone up 20 or 30%. Maybe that subscription is only $2.99. But how many of them do you have? Do you even know? They also don’t get collected into a “Bill Flow” where we can take notice of them all at once. Instead they get pulled out here and there in between each paycheck and over the course of time.

I’ve got to admit. During 2020 I signed up for the South West Ranchers Collective. Because I was a butcher and I wanted to know more about the ins and outs of the industry from the ranchers perspective. I figured I’d get a discount on the classes they were offering if I signed up for the annual membership. For almost 3 years in a row that $23 blindsided me around spring time. I just laugh at myself about it now because everytime I thought “oh it’s just $23 and they’re a good organization”. Which is fine and I solved the issue last time (though I’m going to check to make sure tomorrow now that I’m thinking about it).

The main point is though, these micro subscriptions are syphoning off your energy and if you aren’t utilizing it for it’s full potential. Then it’s just a leech literally pulling out your life blood. The financial types talk about “avocado toast this and cappuccino that” but seriously. The capitalist market system does not, I repeat, does not have your best interest at heart. They don’t even desire to sell you the best product they can anymore. It’s designed to syphon your life away and feed the rich with it.

So the 4 of Pentacles asks you to put your money on your mind. Remember that your life is sacred and precious. Take the moment you need to make sure that your energy is going to the things you use. To the things that you currently care about. Because most of these things are going to still be there when you decide to indulge in them again.

Today’s card comes from the Journey to Oz and Wonderland (my favorite deck if you can’t tell). You can see the card on the Patreon. In the card we see the wicked witch and around her is the storehouse of all kinds of ingredients and brews. Honestly looks lille an apothecary I’d like to go to. We will now give the artist there voice to the card and read from the booklet.

For the Transit of the day we’re looking at Luna’s slow saunter through Scorpio.

Black Moon Lilith is our indicator for how fast the moon is traveling as well as the rest of her powerful punchy nature. With Black Moon Lilith heading towards the center of Sagittarius. We know that Luna (the moon) is moving very slow right now (this must’ve been part of why Artemis II chose to leave when it did). Selene is in Fall in Scorpio. She must find comfort in the uncomfortable spaces. She may find it hard to get settled or easily distressed while simultaneously obsessive about the smallest uncomfortability.

The Moon does get some aide though. She’ll receive a trine from Jupiter for some wisdom in around Noon and some extra dose of communication from Mercury later in the evening. Not a bad Triangle to be at the center of. Just be careful that the irritability doesn’t come through in the communication part.

I will say also though, that it’s important to voice your needs and to be clear with your boundaries if you are feeling a little quick on the trigger. People with Moon in Scorpio often need to learn that they can have nice things and that people will care about their uncomfortability. They don’t need to suffer in silence.

The Final Depositor for today lands on Venus. Venus is in Taurus and is hosting tonights full moon. Her condition, from a hellenistic perspective, is pretty great. She’s an evening star, in her nocturnal domicile. She is unafflicted by Saturn and is in a loose whole sign sextile with Mars. Her closest companions are the sextiles from Mercury in Pisces (her sign of exaltation) and exalted Jupiter in Cancer.

When we bring in the 3 outer planets we end up with some other issues. First of all she’s applying a tight square to Pluto. So there’s a relationship tension around power struggles or maybe an cathartic release through art is being needed. Uranus is in a Contra Anticia with Pluto, so something bottled up might need a dramatic release. Venus is overseeing this tension as well since Uranus is one of the closest aspects she’s participating with. Uranus is approaching the degree of Alcyone and the Pleiades can add confusion as well as other tragedies. I know an astrologer that’s doing a lot of research on the Pleiades and I’m excited for their work to mature.

All of this is to say that if Venus in Taurus doesn’t feel like bubble baths and orgasmic bites of food. This is partially the case. The other reason is I feel the collective is seeking activation of her other significations of Divine Justice in order to create Harmony and Pluto is going to be a big part of that.

As far as the Full Moon itself, you can check out the Almanac since I’ve already written about it there while bringing in the constellations it’s drawing from as well as a Tarot Card for it.

Today I’m mostly here to offer the prayer that I’ve been using for several years now for the Full Moon. This comes from the “Greek Magical Papyri” 2nd edition edited by Hans Dieter Betz. This is a collection of translations of grecko/roman texts from egypt mostly dated from 2nd Century BCE to the 5th Century C.E. and its sole focus is religious/magical operations and incantations. This is a scholarly collection so there is no speculation or frills. That is left up to anyone that chooses to engage with the work.

In it we find the catalogue number of PGM IV. 2785 - 2890 “Prayer to Selene for any spell” (pg. 90). In this passage you find a different side of Selene. Most of our astrological significations for the Moon involve mothers, caretaking, emotions, and the home (and others). In astrological magick we see her as important to every operation for the ancients teach us that if we wish to draw upon the celestial powers into our lives that the moon is the final prism that all the light is filtered through into manifest reality in our world.

In this prayer we find a fierce Titan Goddess who becomes associated with things most “common inclinations” may find dreadful. To me it speaks of the Queen of the Night and the anxieties that come with that darkness. However, there is much power in the piece and I will speak on it no more and allow the ancient text to speak for itself. As always you can find the written version of the prayer on my patreon.

The Tarot Card for the day Is The Knight of Swords

Coming off the X of Swords yesterday, It’s important to notice how the Court cards represent a more pragmatic approach to the element. First and foremost you can see their eyes. All of the figures in the swords minor arcana cards are either blind folded or turned away from you. As a viewer (with the V and VII of swords only revealing one of their two eye’s as they glance behind themselves).

The image of the Classic Knight of Wands is clear of mind and ready to make decisions. Infact, charging full speed, down hill, with his sword out ready to swing away, and into the wind (as you can see by the tree’s blowing the opposite direction in the back ground). This Knight is going no matter what.

The Knight of Swords can help us feel confident and actionable in our ideas and beliefs. However, one can become to rigid and quick to judge. Careful about being prone to jump into a conversation with assumptions that could lead to an argument where there didn’t need to be one.

The Knight helps us push forward though. Not unlike his counter part the Kngiht of Wands. He too has a battle in his story line. However, the battle portrayed in the V of Swords, unlike the V of Wands, shows that Swords were used instead of Wands. There is a sense of defeat and the smirk on the victors face says Arrogance instead of pride. Like wise the following card the 6 of Swords, in place of its opposite card the 6 of wands, is not some glorious parade. Instead its a mourningful trip down a river onto a new land in solitude. The Knight of wands suffered a defeat of shame even though a victory in contest was achieved.

This is the base line of the Knight of Swords decision making. Through past mistakes and regrets. Instead of glorious victories.

So be mindful of the battles you choose and make sure that the effort is of the proper amount. What arguments are worth winning. Is a question that I keep in my front pocket when ever the Knight of Swords comes in to save the day.

The Astrology for the day is the Moon in Virgo opposite Mars then Trine Uranus

Selene is coming off a gentle sextile with Jupiter but into a tense opposition with Mars that follows into a trine with the jolting vibrance of uranus. This makes for some jarring feelings and intensity. Issues may come forward out of no where and battle lines might be drawn. So as with the advice from the Knight of Swords be careful with your words but also clear with your boundaries.

The moon is building up in light and strength. Though she is also slowing down in speed and declining below the ecliptic. So there’s a steady tension that is going to feel emotional. A few hours before Selene reaches Libra before the next sunrise. She will also make a Anticia aspect to Saturn and Neptune so there may be some story lines building up in the background of the Full Moon that will finally come to light afterwards.

Heed the warning of the fable of the Crow and Hydra and if you’re not remembering look it up!

Praise be! Praise Be to the sun and all that it brings us. Today we move into our second week/decan of the year. Where the Sun gains even more dignity by moving into Aries II and then even more so a few days from now he reaches his degree of exaltation.

Today lets see if you notice the switch. If something significant happens’ to your like a text or call from a father figure/boss around the time of the ingress into Aries II. Wish will happen around the highest point of the day at One Thirteen.

Our Tarot Card for the Day is the X of Swords

Known for being one of the most difficult cards in the Tarot. The X of Swords points us towards endings that we can no longer rationalize. My go to phrase for this card is that “Something needs to end. A choice needs to be made or it will be made for you.”

We find in the swords minor arcana, a story line that just seems to get worse as it moves on through time. However, it’s really a story about honesty and hard decisions. That most of the suffering comes form avoiding making the hard decisions and also the restlessness of the mind. The 8 and 9 of swords show a clear path to the 10. When really the initiation of the 2 of swords may have settled the issue a long time ago. If the initiate had just chosen one sword instead of picking up more along the way. However, we still get blindsided by X of Swords moments. Even though they, most of the time, could’ve been avoided by just making the hard decisions.

I personally need to hold that very simple mantra for myself. Honestly, I think that’s the first time I’ve drawn that card from this specific deck.

Today is a day to celebrate though.

Because today is the day Venus moves into Taurus

The Goddess of Harmony, Love, Art, Beauty, and Justices. Rises her mantle of dignity by moving into the sign of Tropical Taurus at Noon EDT and 9 am PDT. As a evening star we find Venus oozing into her comfort zones and allowing moments of rest to revitalize her in between prolonged efforts of doing “The Work”.

The first Decan of Taurus in Austin Coppock’s 36 faces is called “The Plow” after all. It is planting season all across the northern hemisphere and Venus knows you don’t get a garden overnight. Venus does find the renegade, reinventor of the wheel itself, Uranus waiting for her there as she strides in through rose bush archway entrance of Taurus. It is the last spring with Uranus in Taurus and Venus, this year, will almost lead him out the door herself as they cross the threshold into Gemini.

Venusian efforts are mostly seen as their final product. The masterful painting or album. The grandiose film or t.v. show. The masterfully crafted 4 course meal. Or even the documents of divorce that leave both parties equally satisfied (this is a Mercury ruled decan after all). Venus is excited to reveal her masterpieces and sometimes makes it seem so effortless on the outside that people can take the work for granted in not understanding the process.

“Know your worth!” Venus often will plead while artists struggle with rent and food. Clinging to a rose colored lens of struggle and suffering as the only way to be a true artist.

We expect to see the conversation to continue to be pulled to forefront this summer about A.I.’s role in the artistic sphere. Things may develop during her time in Taurus, get talked about more as she moves into Gemini and then really get dug up as she turns retrograde in Scorpio.

Speaking of the Retrograde in Scorpio coming this fall. Now’s a good time to make sure that it doesn’t turn into a X of Swords moment. By starting open dialogues about your feelings and setting up healthy boundaries in any of your current or new relationships. The Venus in Scorpio Retrograde will dig up any resentment that you will be holding onto during that period of time and will require a fair resolution in the end.

So start now with the conversations with those that are closest to you. So that when the issues come up, you’ll be ready for them or they’ll show up in less disruptive relationships.

The Final depositor for the Day is Helios. Really there is a kind of circular exchange of energy happening between the Sun in Aries, who looks to Mars in Pisces for resourcing, then Mars looks to Jupiter in Cancer, Jupiter then looks to Selene in Leo, Who finally looks back to Helios is Mars. We use accidental dignity to break the cycle and choose a sphere as the main depositor. Clearly it turns back to Helios, in its exaltation and rising in the ascendant while also looking over the custodian of the Day and hour.

This morning the 3rd rally of “No Kings” protests marches. So this strong Exalted Sun that is also conjoined Saturn and Neptune makes for an interesting challenge to all “Solar” or “Leadership” based figures.

Venus, as Custodian of the Day and Hour is still shimmering at dusk each night. She sits in her own Decan or Face of Aries III where she has dignity and can really rally people together. The Star of Ishatar, Inanna, Isis, Aphrodite, and Venus. Carries the signification of “Righteous Battle and seeking of Justice and Harmony”. This “Justice” signification carried from the Tails in the babylon/sumeria, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and into the Islamic period through the 1200’s. We start to see this concept of Venus taper off in the European Texts where Venus begins to fade from it’s more virtuous role as “Bringer of Social Harmony” to a more confined role of “Women, Beauty, art, marriage and sex”.

It’s not unlike a context we are once again seeing in today’s political sphere. Where a bill “The Save Act” is challenging the very rights of Women and their ability to participate in how we frame Justice and what is right and wrong. “The Save Act” makes it harder for anyone who has changed their name, for whatever reason, to even vote.

So for this mornings Hymn we turn to the ancient Priestess and Poet of ancient Mesopotamia. Enheduanna (circa 2354 B.C.) was the first writer whose name was recorded and the first female author.

I hope that the strength of Venus shines down upon and from within everyone who seeks to unify against the tyranny of capitalism and the tyrants that it fabricates.

The Tarot Card for the Day is the V of Wands

The Five of wands is here to remind us that we need to strive for the things that we desire to achieve. Also that Competition can be fun and healthy when done in the right spirit.

Of all the more contentious cards. It’s important to remember the tool being used in this competition is the Wands. The wands represent fire the element of Will and Creative energy. It sparks, illuminates, and inspires. Healthy competition is fair and is best when we are mostly competing against ourselves.

Weather we win or loose, as long as we give it our all we should feel satisfied with our efforts. If we do come up short the 5 of wands reminds us to take stock of our shortcomings and improve upon them. Stray away from sulking or jealousy because the former simply delays our improvement while the latter blinds us to what our next steps should be, and both simply delay our inevitable success.

This card is associated with the first decan or face of Leo and is the central card of the Knight of Wands. It is through these trials that the Knight of Wands forms his identity and self respect

The Astrology to Highlight for the day is the perfecting of the Sextile of Saturn and Pluto

The Sextile is seen as the least intense of the traditional aspects because it mimics the face of the waxing and waning crescent that the moon makes. This is the 60 degree separation that’s formed between them. It’s known as the aspect of Venus. Though this is a subtler aspect. For Saturn and Pluto it is their first exact sextile since Pluto has been in Aquarius and since their conjunction in Capricorn in 2020.

For these outer bodies the sextiles can ring a little louder because of how they initiate and highlight larger stories. For an example. The last Pluto and Saturn Conjunction happened in Libra in 1982. The opening waxing Sextile happened on May 2nd, 1989 and on this day Hungary’s reform government led by Miklós Németh cuts a hole in the electric wire fence between it and Austria beginning the fall of the Iron Curtain. Under a year later on January 16th, 1990 Two members of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International plead guilty to money laundering.

So this is simply to say that we should expect the Saturn and Pluto story to reveal itself today and unfold in the coming year. It’s the only perfected sextile in this cycle and leads to a series of squares from Saturn in Taurus in 2028/29.

This perfects at 6:10 EDT and 3:10 PDT.

The Tidal Shifts for the Day are as follows:

It’s during the Full and New Moons that the Tides are at their peaks for the month because this is when the Moon and Suns Gravities work in tandem Pulling and releasing in unison at our tides as the shift from one to the next.

This is a prayer that I wrote that is based on the significations of Jupiter as presented in the “Great Introduction” by Abu Ma’shar (d. 886 C.E.) an inspirational astrologer from the Islamic Period. A lot has been expected of Jupiter in Cancer since its ingress in the summer of 2025. However, the position of Saturn, rising first everyday and thus being in what’s known as the “Overcoming” position to Jupiter each day. Brings a commanding heaviness that weighs down Jupiter’s Jolly disposition. In conversation with other astrologers some of us agree that what Jupiter is mitigating or preventing even harsher conditions. Then what we have been experiencing as a collective. It may also be a good case study for those that lean closer to the Sidereal Zodiac to see if Jupiter’s positive influence improves as he moves into Sidereal Cancer. If you’ve opened Selene’s Almanac, You’ll see that I do take both Sidereal and Tropical into consideration.

So, from an observational consideration, you may want to take note of June 6th, at 6:36 EDT cast from Washington D.C. this is when Jupiter moves into Sidereal Cancer (from the Fagen-Bradley Sidereal degrees). Astrology, in it’s deepest roots, has been learned, practiced, and passed on by making collected observations. So, together, let’s observe this shift. If you use a different Sidereal Anchor, you may have a different ingress time and date, so please leave that in the comments below.

The Tarot Card for the Day is 0 The Fool

The Fool invites us to be open and whimsical. To shed rigid beliefs and expectations in the journey ahead. The Fool is curious and unapologetic with who they are and want to be when they grow up. Grow up? Why that would truly be foolish. The Fool accepts that they don’t actually know what they are doing and where they are going.

In the Golden Dawn system the Fool is placed at 0’00” of Aries. Considered the natural starting point of the Tropical Zodiac. It’s here that The northward bound equinox (or spring equinox in the northern hemisphere) takes place. To me the equinoxes are pure, natural, observable magic. Out of the whole 365 and a quarter days in a year. They are the only two that get the whole planet to experience as close to equal day and night together. Isn’t that amazing. Most of the ancient calendrical systems cross culturally have some sort of way to mark these moments.

The Fool carries this “fresh start” standing on the pin prick of balance energy. Usually with one foot planted and the other in the air, the traditional Rider Waite Smith “Fool” Steps towards a cliff.

The philosopher Alan Watts often reminds us that “everywhere we go, we are arriving and leaving simultaneously.” To expect we know exactly what’s going to happen where ever we arrive is truly foolish. Even when you make a regular trip to say a coffee shop in the morning. You can try to curate the most predictable and efficient experience you desire. Yet everything is still not the same as it was before.

The Fool invites us to step into each sunrise with the same curiosity. Allowing the fresh daylight to reveal the beauty of nuance each day may bring. Knowing that how you receive that day and it’s experiences is completely subjective to you. Co created by everything you’ve done before now and everything that has been done by the world around you.

The Astrology to Highlight for the day is: The Moon’s Ingress into Leo

Though Luna makes every aspect to each planet every month (or as Gemini Brett likes to say Moonth). This first first trip through Leo since the Suns ingress into Aries marks a shift in the Leo part of the Cycle. When the Sun Moves through Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces it leaves Leo disenfranchised. In Capricorn the Sun doesn’t make a traditional aspect or line of sight to it’s Main home, In Aquarius the Sun finds it’s detriment or estrangement thus leaving Leo with less then favorable resources and strength. Then finally once again in Pisces The Sun makes no traditional aspect to it Sacred Summer lands. So the moon’s passage through Leo during that period of time is “Rocky” or “aimless” and has been susceptible to the opposition to Pluto with out the empowerment of the Sun. So now we get a completely different flow to Leo. Luna will Trine Neptune, Then Saturn, Oppose Pluto and Trine the Sun in quick succession from 10:10 am till 1:16 am Edt.

That’s a lot of work for Luna to put into just over 12 hours. With the Sun now being able to provide support from its exaltation in Aries and the moon being in it’s Waxing Gibbous Phase we could expect some commotion for the day.

As always, the best thing you can do is be your own astrologer. By watching the cycles. This is going to be a similar pattern repeated each spring for at least 2 more years with Saturn and 13 more years with Neptune and Pluto.

Though the Lord of the Day and Hour, Mercury, is conjunct Rahu (or the North Node) and with Mars. Both are receiving a trine from Jupiter and Selene (by whole sign aspect at the minimum).

Of the things listed in today’s prayer of Mercury’s gifts,

the one that surfaced to mind, in consideration of today’s stars, was the line “Dire weapon of the tongue, which men revere”. Since Mercury is copresent with Mars, may are tongues be sharp and clear but guided by the wisdom of Jupiter and the care of Selene.

In butchery, surgery, cooking, and most things where a knife is used. It is always to have the sharpest knife possible for its accuracy. However, you can only cut once, so it is equally important to be sure of when and how you’re using the knife. The same wisdom can be applied to our speech and the words we say.

We’re still sorting through the retrograde shadow of Mercury till the 9th of April. While Mercury itself is still in its more emotional and poetic form by being in Pisces till April 14th. So direct communication and clear cutting decision making may still be difficult. When writing a poem about your feelings or a heart felt letter to your future self may be a better use of the Mercury we have now.

Today’s Tarot Card is the VI of Wands from the Hush Tarot

The 6 of wands is a very celebratory card. In the traditional Rider-Waite Smith image we find A figure seated on a horse surrounded by crowd of people cheering in celebration. Presumably this is one of the figures from the 5 of wands, the preceding competitive card, and the figure of the 4 of cups from the decanic order of the cards themselves.

What do I mean by “Decanic Order”? Well, briefly, in the Golden Dawn tradition the 2 through 10 of the minor Arcana represent 10 degree portions or “Decans” of the Zodiac. Also, The Knight, Queen, and Kings of each element sit over 3 of those cards in a specific order. These almost shape story lines that tell nuance and details about the mixture of the elements for each of the Court Cards.

So, for instance, the VI of Wands is the final card of the three minors that comprise the Knight of Wands. The Knight of Wands three minor cards are the 4 of cups, the 5 of wands, and the 6 of wands. I like to say that it tells a story of a figure that has become dissatisfied or stagnate in thief current situation, then enters a period of strife that they have chosen or forced into, and when persevered they come out on top which is what we see in the final card of the VI of Wands. This becomes the story arch of the Knight of Wands and the backbone of why they seem so confident.

So the VI of Wands is here to remind us to celebrate ourselves and the things we’ve accomplished so far. Sometimes, we move to quickly onto the next thing in our lives and don’t take the time to truly celebrate who we’ve become and where we are.

So ask yourself, and be clear about this, what can I celebrate about myself right now? Let it be little or big. Let it be anything. Just celebrate it with honesty. Do you shrug off compliments from others? Are you afraid of appearing arrogant?

I feel like Pride is too often conflated with arrogance. They are very different. It is okay to feel proud of who you are and the things you do. It is ok to tell people you are good at something or that you simply enjoy doing something. Pride is the warm feeling you get in your heart when you know, not because someone has praised you, but you know that you enjoyed the outcome of something you put your time and energy into.

So be proud and celebrate something, anything, about yourself today.

The Astrology Highlight for the Day is The Jupiter/Moon/Sirius Conjunction

Perfecting at 8:57 EDT and 5:57 PDT we find the rare conjunction of Selene, Jupiter, and the projected degree of the glorious star Sirius in the Tropical Zodiac of Cancer.

With Jupiter exalted and Selene in her home sign of Cancer this leads to a very auspicious moment. Hopefully you find today’s energy encouraging and helpful. I’m not telling you to expect miracles. However, after this perfects, Selene then moves onto a trine to Mars and a square to Venus. So there maybe tension today that can be transmuted creatively or through the effort of working the body (going for a hike or a vibrant workout) or even artistically. Maybe a steamy hot moment with a partner is called for.

Either way, with all the tension and plenty of things to feel angry, bitter, or isolated about. Today is a brief reprieve from those other struggles.

Sunrise in Aries is going to continue to be desposited by Selene’s condition until Mars enter Aries on April 9th. So take the wins when you can. The Moon moves swiftly through the Zodiac and her dignity shifts in dramatic ways, as any Cancer rising, Sun, or Moon will tell you. This can be a radically shifting energy to deal with on a day to day basis.

So take today as a win if you can.

Just on the Heels of the the perfection of the Saturn and Sun conjunction.

Helios is at 4’ and 48” minutes of Aries with Saturn at 4’ and 45” of Aires

Selene is at 0’ and 18” of Cancer

And the Ascendant is at 7’ and 46” of Aries

We will start today with less preamble and move straight into the Orphic Hymn to Mars with the translation provided by Theoi.com

This is Hymn Number 64

Magnanimous, unconquer’d, boistrous Mars,

in darts rejoicing, and in bloody wars

Fierce and untam’d, whose mighty pow’r can make

the strongest walls from their foundations shake:

Mortal destroying king, defil’d with gore,

pleas’d with war’s dreadful and tumultuous roar:

Thee, human blood, and swords, and spears delight,

and the dire ruin of mad savage fight.

Stay, furious contests, and avenging strife,

The thing we see and notice right away about this specific Hymn to Ares or Mars. Is that instead of being a call for the gifts of Ares there is recognition of his power and strength but the request is to step away from the battle and into the field.

It’s a request to be tempted and soothed by Venus and Bacchus. Austin Coppock teaches, with playful and morbid curiosity, that this is a “Don’t hurt me bro” invocation.

A prayer that both acknowledges but does not suppress, the role Ares plays in the cosmos. It simply requests that it utilizes it’s might for more constructive gains by turning the weapons into tools to use in matters of work. While also being rewarded by the affections of Venus and the banter of Baccus.

If I were going to add to our Invocation of Mars for recent times I may, at the end, offer something like:

As we March in the streets for “No Kings”

Mars Join us with your Strength and Dignity

What would you add at the end of this invocation to the God of War in order to utilize the energy in the climate of today’s political/spiritual climate?

Because the aggression of Mars is more then just blood thirsty. It’s the strength and endurance that we use to build anything meaningful in our lives. No matter your work. We all utilize the perseverance of Mars to deal with difficulties. We utilize the strife of Mars to achieve our goals. No matter if your doing Dead Lifts or Yoga. It’s the energy of Mars that we use to build our muscles and sculpt our bodies.

The Tarot Card for the Day is Number 12 The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is here to remind us of the sacrifices that we need to make in order to reach new found places of spiritual connection. That it’s the tangible and physical things of the world that distract us from the inner work.

Because is grew up in a christian context. The word Sacrifice can be heavy and burdensome It can be as simple as the act of Meditation.

Meditation, especially in today’s western context, can definitely fill the role of a sacrifice. Because we are setting aside a piece of time, the most valuable asset that we have, for the purpose of reflection and self acknowledgment.

On the outside, meditation can look like a luxury, and having a certain amount of financial cushion can make it easier to find the time to meditate and especially a comfortable container to do it in.

However, if you’re challenging yourself to truly grow, then you take note of the things that distract your mind from peace. The thoughts that arise during meditation are a reflection of the self.

Reflection is a good word for the Hanged Man because the card holds the signification of the Water element. Reflection in water only occur’s when it is perfectly still and in that stillness do we not only get a mirror like reflection but the sediment of the water filters itself to the bottom and the water itself will become clear.

So simultaneously this becomes a metaphor for the goal and act of meditation itself. By becoming still we not only receive a clear reflection of the self but also the clarity of mind to perceive it.

It’s only accomplished through sacrificing time normally dedicated to “doing” or “being” in the rest of the world.

As for the Astrology for the day. The Sun makes it’s exact sextile to Pluto only a few hours after the conjunction to Saturn. This may indicate the first real growth of this years conjunction with Pluto on January 23rd.

The first story that comes to mind from that day, was the economic black out or “Boycott” or “City Wide Strike” that happened in Minnieppolis Minnesota. This was a community unifying against the actions of ICE including the killing of Renee Goode which then was bookended the next by ICE agents killing Alex Pretti the next day.

There are already too many names of people and families that are being devastated by the “Elected Officials” of this current administration. The images of Renee Goode and Alex Pretti definitely fall into the heavier and more burdened idea of “Sacrifice”. May their efforts and deeds be remembered more then their deaths themselves.

Because both were acting from a place of service and self-sacrifice for their neighbors and community. With out truly knowing the price they would inevitably pay.

Take a deep breath in

And let it out

The breath reminds us of the flow of life and the circular nature time itself. As well as the coming in and out of the ocean tides.

Hear at Selene’s Gateway we track the energy tides of the day. Which we have a table for in the Almanac. This is crafted by watching the Moon’s pull on the oceanic tides each day. These are reflected in the Astrology charts of each day by pointing to when the Moon is Rising in the East, Culminating overhead, Setting in the west, and lower culminating below our feet.

Today started with a high tide of energy at around Midnight 30

The low tide (or building of energy) happens around 8 am

The Next High Tide or “Releasing” of energy is around 11:20 am

The Low Tide or Building energy happens again at around 9:33 Pm

With the High tide again coming in after Midnight

Since this, like Sunrise, is about where the moon is in relationship with your space then the times are roughly around the same for all time zones.

Finally we also track the “Shadow” hours for each day at Selene’s Almanac. Today’s Rahu Hour is during 4:17 pm till 5:48 pm and then after sundown it will be Saturn night with the Rahu Hour at 10:19 pm till 11:47 pm

Welcome to the pilot episode of our morning edition. Our hope is to initiate each day with fellowship by merging the above with the below.

I opened with an “astrology” flavored version of the Serenity Prayer that I learned while attending Alcoholics Anonymous. I find a lot of wisdom and comfort in the words and as astrologers I think we can apply this same wisdom to what is revealed to us as we commune with the stars and bring their enlightenment into our lives and into the lives of the people around us.

Most people at this point can concur, that we are indeed in historic times. As astrologers, our practice is to be able to perch our consciousness in a place of balance so that we can see the light that is being cast through a clear prism.

That our own anxieties and presumptions muddy our gaze as little as possible. Don’t get me wrong. No one is capable of omitting personal bias and most of us look to how the astrology is hitting our charts first.

The Serenity Prayer offers us a frame to help us hold our gaze at such a precarious pin point. When the world itself is going through so much turmoil. As the prayer says it’s important to “Know what we can’t change, but have the courage to change what we can…”

We are each of us, in our own piece of time and space. With our own perspectives and experiences. Stewards of our own fractal of the universe. So we must own the limits of our capacity and to be honest with ourselves about what we can handle and when it’s time to put the charts away.

So, that’s how we’re going to start these episodes. With a simple reminder, that we are not in control of everything, but we also are not powerless. That we exist simultaneously in a predetermined experience that we get to co-create.

For our next segment, we will be reading the Orphic Hymn to Selene. Feel free to read along. A lot of astrologers have joined the practice of reading a homeric, orphic, or some other prayer to the planetary custodian of the day at sunrise. For at sunrise it is both the day and hour of the same spirit or essence rising in the east. Whenever it rises where you are.

The Tarot Card For the Day: XV The Devil

The Devil is here to remind us that we give power to the things that control us. In the classic Rider-Waite Smith card we two figures that are naked and vulnerable, seemingly imprisoned by the Devil himself.

Often used in Pop culture media, along with XIII Death, to bring fear and darkness into the minds of people who don’t practice Tarot. The Devil’s image has become an archetypal egregore that almost simultaneously unifies people against the Tarot itself.

This brings to mind how our current state of storytelling (movies, news, social media) is bringing more of these “deomonized” and “Othering” archetypes, like the foreigner or stranger, into the open. When the true “Devil” is the one casting the shadows we see to begin with.

Every image we see asks us for our power. The most important power that we have. Which is our attention and how we frame or fill it. The advertising industry is built around syphoning our gaze and attention. It’s casts a market value and a “Projected” impact that they “forecast” their ability to influence us over time.

Because what we’re doing at the moment. Is the most important thing we are always doing. The Two naked figures in the Devil Card are shackled, yes, but their bondages are loose and could be slipped off if they choose. In recovery groups we talk about not thinking to far ahead. About how choosing to not drink today is the only choice we really need to focus on.

So today ask yourself what choice could you make differently today that can make things better for you tomorrow?

Today’s card was pulled from the Journey to Oz and Wonderland deck and features the “Queen of Hearts” as our Devil for today. So to give the artist their due I will also read from their booklet about the card.

As for the Astrology for today. I feel like the passage from the Tarot reflects the perfection of the conjunction of our Sun, Helios, and Saturn in Tropical Aries near the projected degrees of the stars from the Sea Monster constellation.

The Conjunction Perfects tonight at 4:55 Eastern and 1:55 Pacific before the Sun rises tomorrow.

This is the first conjunction of the Sun to both Saturn and Neptune while in Tropical Aries and we can see both the Firey War like actions being combined with the Navel influence of the Fishes and Sea Monster constellations. While The Custodian of Aries (Mars who signifies battles) is also moving through Tropical Pisces, a water sign.

I feel like the description in the card represents the corruption of the the Solar figure. This corruption that we’ve been seeing continue to unfold ever since his inauguration, when the Sun conjoined Pluto in 2025 (an archetype for the underworld).

However, the light has revealed more and more corruption as time continues to push forward and I will stop here and take a breath.

We will see how it unfolds.

“Grant us the serenity to accept the things we can not change…”

Saturn is also “The People” and it is up to us to recognize that it is going to take a collective “Courage” and to know that we can change the way things are going.

But we do need the Wisdom to know when and where to act.

We can’t do it alone. We must, in fact, create change together.

Talk to your neighbors. Talk to your coworkers. Talk about what is going on and how it makes you feel.
