Welcome to Selene’s Calendar
As we’ve entered through the gates of Sagittarius Season. It’s time to unveil one of the main features of Selene’s Gateway on Patreon “Selene’s Calendar”. Through the process of learning observable natural time through many courses from astrologers, books about ancient calendars, and the experience of watching/feeling time itself. I’ve come to the practice of building a calendar. This is one of the important works I’ve come to be passionate about and have felt a tug or shadow of it escaping my peripheral vision or living just outside of it almost my entire life. There have been many signs along the way that this is one of the things I’m supposed to do in my life as a whole and I’m excited to invite you to support me in this work.
What am I even talking about?
It’s hard to introduce the idea, however, I will simply start here. The calendar that we currently use to schedule our lives around is singularly a “Solar/Earth” calendar. It’s mathematically constructed around one set of principles and was initial started by Julius Caesar in what we call 48 BCE. Its inception was due to political turmoil in which those that were in charge of maintaining the “Civil Calendar” were manipulating it for their own political gains. Imagine, having the power to manipulate then length of a politicians term simply by changing the length of the year, knowing that you could make it up by extending the terms of the next politicians reign.
The possibility of being able to do this, is related to the then prominence of Selene’s importance in the determination and creation of days, weeks, and months. Math that I will go into in a later post (or at least the philosophical concepts). In reaction to this political strategy. Julius Caesar destroyed (literally broke) the Lunar half of the natural calendar and worked to develop a more “Consistant” civil calendar that needed less intervention and thus less room for manipulation.
Selene’s Calendar, which I will be providing here on patreon, is a return to those older calculations. The Julian calendar does not align with our seasons, you’ll notice by the shifting of the dates of the equinox and solstice points from year to year. It doesn’t align with the natural months that were original determined by the relationship of Selene and Helios, which as astrologers, witches, pagans, and spiritual people we tend to regulate ourselves to.
The goal of this project is to return to that dualistic balanced cycle and way of relating to time directly. To no longer rely on simply Helios alone for our perception of time. What you will find in this project is a weekly, monthly, and eventually yearly reflection of time that is relational instead of mandatory. That time is a process and not a singular algorithm. That by reintroducing Selene’s part in our relationship to time we can begin to rebalance our cultural consciousness from “Solar Patriarchal” to the “Gaia/Helios/Selene” matrix that we actually breathe in and out of every moment of every day.
